A nice Winchester Model 1892 Saddle Ring Carbine. Manufactured in 1913 and restored in the early 1940’s. This early production carbine has a full blue finish with original varnish finished stock and forearm. The round barrel has a steel front sight blade mounted on a block behind the front barrel band and a folding leaf rear sight graduated to 200 yards. A staple-mounted saddle ring is located on the left side of the receiver. The stock has a carbine style butt plate. The left side of the barrel is clearly roll-stamped with the two-line legend ” MANUFACTURED BY WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS OF NEW HAVEN CONN. USA PATTENT OCT 14.1884″ . The “44 W.C.F.” calibre and Winchester “W/P” proof mark is stamped on the top of the barrel in front of the receiver. The upper receiver tang is roll-stamped “MODEL 1892 – WINCHESTER – “.
Condition is very good. The carbine receiver retains nearly all of the blue finish. Miniscule traces of odd pitting are visible beneath the surface of the blue on the upper tang and sides of the receiver but doesn't detract from the overall look of this rifle. The barrel and magazine appear to retain nearly all of the original blue finish. The bore is nice and bright with very good prominent rifling.
All in all a very nice hard to find collectible rifle.
